Choosing the Right TV Pack for a Joint Family
Different generations, different favourite channels. Build a TV pack that keeps grandparents, parents and kids happy without overpaying.

In a joint family, the TV remote may be the most contested object in the house. Grandparents want news and devotional programmes, parents follow serials and sports, and children want cartoons. A well-chosen pack reduces arguments — and the monthly bill.
Start with a family survey
Ask each member to list the channels they watch every week, not just occasionally. You will quickly see overlaps — usually a couple of news channels, two or three entertainment channels and sports during the season.
Balance national and regional channels
Include regional news and entertainment channels in your home language alongside national Hindi and English channels. For many elders, regional serials and news are the most important part of the pack.
Plan for children
One or two kids channels are usually enough, especially if children also have profiles in streaming apps. Choose channels with age-appropriate content and set parental controls on the set-top box where available.
Devotional and music channels
Morning aartis, discourses and bhajans are part of daily routine in many homes. Devotional and music channels are inexpensive additions that make elders very happy.
HD where it matters
Choose HD versions of channels watched on the main living-room TV. A second TV in a bedroom can use SD versions to save money and network capacity.
Use OTT for occasional viewing
Shows watched once in a while — a particular cooking show or a weekend movie channel — can often be found on OTT apps instead. Paying for a channel you watch twice a month rarely makes sense.
Review after the first month
Watch which channels actually get used and adjust your pack accordingly. Remove the ones that nobody opened.
The bottom line
Survey the family, buy what you watch and combine live TV with OTT apps for variety. Purple MAX bundles live channels with 23 OTT apps and unlimited landline calls, so every generation in a joint family is covered on one bill.
