Understanding Your Broadband Bill and Plan Duration Options
Three, six, nine or twelve months? A clear look at how prepaid durations, monthly equivalents and taxes work on a broadband plan.

Broadband pricing in India has moved towards prepaid plans with a choice of durations. Understanding how they work helps you pick the best value without surprises.
Total price vs monthly equivalent
Plan pages usually show two numbers: the total you pay up front and the "per month" equivalent. For example, a plan might cost ₹1,797 for three months (₹599/month) or ₹6,588 for twelve months (₹549/month). The longer you commit, the lower the monthly equivalent.
Why longer durations cost less
Providers save on billing, collection and churn when customers stay longer, and pass part of that saving back as a discount. Over a year, the difference between paying quarterly and annually can add up to the cost of a month or more.
When a shorter plan makes sense
- You are new to the area and want to try the service first.
- You may move house in the next few months.
- Cash flow matters more than the long-term saving this month.
Taxes and one-time charges
Check whether listed prices include GST. Home plans often show tax-inclusive prices, while business plans are usually quoted plus GST. Ask about any one-time installation or equipment charges before paying.
Add-ons and upgrades
Upgrading speed or switching to a plan with OTT apps mid-term is usually possible — the difference is adjusted against your remaining validity.
Keep your details handy
Save your account ID and registered email. Renewal reminders, invoices and OTT activation messages all go there.
The bottom line
If you are happy with your provider and expect to stay put, a 12-month plan is usually the best value. If you are still deciding, start with three months and upgrade the duration at renewal.
