Moving House? How to Shift Your Broadband Without Stress

Relocating your internet connection takes a little planning. Here is a checklist to keep you online through the move.

Moving House? How to Shift Your Broadband Without Stress

Moving to a new home comes with a long to-do list, and internet often ends up at the bottom — until the day you need it for work or school. A few early steps make the switch painless.

Check availability at the new address first

Before you sign a rent agreement or finalise the date, share the new address with your provider. If fiber is already live in the building, the shift can often be done within a couple of days of your request.

Book the shift two weeks ahead

Give the team enough time to plan the disconnection at your old home and installation at the new one. Try to schedule installation the day after you move, so you are not left without a connection for long.

What to carry

  • The router and any set-top box provided with your plan
  • Power adapters and Ethernet cables
  • Your account ID and registered mobile number

Plan the new router spot

Look at the new floor plan and choose a central location near a power point. Tell the engineer where you want it before cabling starts, rather than moving it later.

What about your remaining plan duration?

Your plan usually continues at the new address with the same validity. If service is not available there, ask about refunds for the unused period as per the provider's refund policy.

Keep a backup for the gap

Mobile hotspot data can cover essential work for a day or two. Download offline shows for the kids before moving day.

The bottom line

Start early, confirm availability, and choose your router spot in advance. The move will still be busy — but at least the Wi-Fi will be ready when you are.
