Static IP Blocks and IPv6 on Your Leased Line
Leased lines include static IPv4 addresses and IPv6. Here is how businesses use them and how many you need.

A static IP block is one of the most practical benefits of an Internet Leased Line. It makes your office reachable at fixed addresses on the internet — essential for hosting services and secure access.
Common uses for static IPs
- Hosting websites, applications, mail servers or APIs on your own infrastructure
- VPN gateways for remote employees and branch offices
- IP-whitelisted access to cloud consoles, banking portals, payment gateways and partner systems
- Remote access to CCTV, building management and industrial systems
- Video conferencing room systems that need direct reachability
How many addresses do you need?
A /29 block provides eight addresses, of which five are usable for your devices once network, gateway and broadcast addresses are accounted for. That is enough for most offices: a firewall, a VPN gateway and a few public-facing services. Larger requirements can be justified with a usage plan.
Why IPv4 addresses are limited
IPv4 addresses are scarce worldwide. Providers allocate them carefully and may ask you to justify larger blocks.
IPv6 is ready when you are
Native IPv6 is available alongside IPv4 on UbiFi leased lines. IPv6 offers a vast address space and is increasingly used by mobile networks and cloud platforms. Enabling it now prepares your network for the future.
Reverse DNS
If you run mail servers, ask your provider to configure reverse DNS (PTR records) for your IPs. It improves email deliverability.
Security considerations
Every public IP is reachable from the internet. Place a firewall in front of all services, expose only the ports you need and monitor logs. Pair your leased line with DDoS protection for internet-facing services.
Changing providers
Provider-assigned IPs stay with the provider. If IP continuity matters, consider provider-independent addresses with your own ASN and BGP.
The bottom line
Static IPs make hosting and secure access straightforward. Plan your needs, enable IPv6 and protect everything you expose with proper firewalling.
