ILL Installation Timeline: From Quote to Go-Live

What happens after you request a leased line — feasibility, approvals, build, testing and handover.

ILL Installation Timeline: From Quote to Go-Live

Knowing the steps involved in delivering a leased line helps you plan office openings, migrations and moves without last-minute surprises.

1. Requirement and feasibility

You share the site address, bandwidth, SLA and redundancy needs. The provider checks how far its nearest fiber is, the route to your building and capacity availability. This usually takes one to two working days.

2. Proposal and contract

You receive a quote with pricing, SLA terms and estimated delivery timelines. Once agreed, the order is placed.

3. Permissions

If new fiber must be laid, right-of-way permissions from local authorities and building permissions from landlords or societies may be required. This is often the longest step, so start it early.

4. Build and cabling

Fiber is laid to the building and up to your floor through risers. Inside the building, it terminates in your server room or comms cabinet.

5. Equipment installation

The provider installs and configures the termination device and, if included, a managed router or firewall.

6. Testing

Engineers test bandwidth, latency, packet loss and, if applicable, failover between paths. Static IPs and routing are configured.

7. Handover

You receive documentation: circuit IDs, IP details, support contacts and escalation matrix.

Typical timelines

Where fiber is already nearby, delivery often takes 7–15 working days after the order. New builds can take several weeks depending on permissions.

How to speed things up

  • Engage early — six to eight weeks before you need the line.
  • Arrange building access and permissions promptly.
  • Have your server room ready with power and space.

The bottom line

A leased line is a small project, not a simple installation. Start early, keep building management informed and you will be online on schedule.
