Kids and Streaming: Setting Up Profiles and Parental Controls
OTT apps make it easy to keep children's viewing age-appropriate. Here is how to set up kids profiles, PINs and screen-time habits.

Children love streaming, and most OTT apps now include tools to keep viewing safe and age-appropriate. A little setup goes a long way.
Create a kids profile in every app
Most major apps offer a dedicated kids profile with a simplified interface and age-filtered titles. Make it the default on the devices children use.
Lock adult profiles with a PIN
Set a profile PIN on adult profiles so children cannot switch out of their own. Some apps also allow a PIN for purchases and rentals.
Use maturity ratings
Apps let you choose maturity levels such as U, U/A 7+, U/A 13+ or A. Set the highest level allowed for each child's profile.
Network-level protection
Safe-browsing DNS filtering on your home network can block inappropriate websites across all devices — phones, tablets and laptops — not just inside OTT apps.
Healthy screen-time habits
- Keep screens out of bedrooms at night.
- Agree on "screen-free" times such as meals and homework.
- Watch together sometimes and talk about what they watch.
The bottom line
Kids profiles, PINs and ratings take ten minutes to set up and give peace of mind. Combine them with family habits for a healthy balance.
