How Many Streaming Screens Can Your Connection Handle?
Planning a movie night while the kids watch cartoons and someone is on a call? Work out how many simultaneous streams your plan supports.

In many homes, three or four screens stream at the same time every evening. Knowing how much each one needs helps you avoid slowdowns.
Bandwidth by quality
- SD: around 2–3 Mbps
- HD (720p/1080p): around 5–8 Mbps
- 4K: around 20–25 Mbps
These are approximate; apps adjust quality dynamically.
Do the maths
Two 4K TVs (50 Mbps) + one HD tablet (8 Mbps) + a video call (5 Mbps) + background phones (10 Mbps) ≈ 73 Mbps. A 100 Mbps plan handles this comfortably; a 50 Mbps plan would struggle.
App limits are separate
Each OTT app also limits how many screens can stream at once on one account. Check your plan tier in each app.
Wi-Fi capacity matters too
A single older router can struggle with many devices even if your plan has spare bandwidth. Dual-band or mesh routers handle crowded homes better.
The bottom line
Add up the streams that happen at the same time, include headroom for phones and calls, and choose your plan accordingly. Unlimited data means you never have to ration screens by the end of the month.
